Hamonado Chicken (sweet pineapple soysauce chicken)

Today was another errands day and since I will be busy tidying up the house as well, I figured a recipe which actually takes care of itself while I do something else is worth trying.

Chicken Hamonado. This is slightly different from the Hamonado I used to eat when I was a little girl in that it has soy sauce, no hotdogs, and is less sweet. I would post the actual recipe for that version if I figure it out. However, for today, this recipe is it. You basically place everything in the pan and let it boil till done. Easy right? Serve with rice and a side of vegetables and you’ve got a pretty tasty lunch or dinner ready with minimal effort on your part! Winner!

Ingredients

  • 4 lbs. chicken pieces with skin and bones
  • 1 can (20 oz) pineapple chunks
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper

Remove excess skin from chicken. Place in a deep saucepan, trying not to overlap. Pour in the liquid from the can of pineapple chunks(reserve the pineapple), water, brown sugar, soysauce, onion, and garlic. Boil over medium heat for about 45 minutes. Check the level of the liquid and add some water if needed.

Add pineapple chunks and boil for 10 more minutes.
