As parents, we often want the best for our children. That includes wanting them to have a good work ethic and money skills. Here are some tips that can help.
Chores. Money money money! Some kids are motivated by money. And giving them age appropriate chores will help them earn money they can later spend. Now there are chores kids do for free because they are apart of the family and we all have a job to do. But come up with some chores for each child that is just for to do and receive money for. You can call this an allowance, payday, or commission etc.
Be Clear. Take time to express to them how you expect the chore to be done. You may need to help them the first couple times until they get it right.
Shop. When you go shopping let your kids bring their own spending money. This helps teaches them life lesson. They need to know if they have enough money to buy the item. They will also gain experience interacting with the sales person at the register and learn how to count out their change.
Remember, kids take in a lot from watching you so make sure you are encourage your kids along the way. They will thank you when they are older for learning lessons with money while they are dealing with smaller dollar amounts rather when they are adults learning those hard lessons with thousands of dollars!
