School has officially started for my 2nd & Preschooler. One thing I have quickly learned is that we should have practiced our morning routine much sooner during the summer. In fact, I think we will try better to stay on a routine that is close to our school year routine during summer break to help us ease back into the school year.
4 things we learned:
- Have a wake up time that is earlier than 9am! Sometimes I feel that we are the only parents who sleeps in and allows their kiddos to sleep in too. My little guy can sleep and so can I. However, when I wake up early I get so much done before lunch time. Funny how that works out. And when the school year rolled around last week, it took me 20 minutes every morning to wake Bryce up.
- Have your meal plan ready for the week. Knowing what you have in the fridge and cupboards for breakfast and packed lunches saves us so much time in the morning. You will thank yourself later!
- Showers and Picking out clothes the night before. Again, it saves time to have our kiddos shower the night before and pick out what they want to wear the night before. Bryce is too opinionated on what he likes to wear to help him pick out clothes in the morning. (plus, I’m not always in the best mood in the early am) Two less steps in the morning!
- Teach the kids how to be self efficient (age appropriate) Our 2nd grader can do her morning routine by herself. That includes, Brushing her hair, brush her teeth, make her bed and get dress all by herself. We are working on her packing her lunches on her own. Even though Bryce can get fully dressed on his own, we still help him with making his bed, brushing his teeth and hair etc. It’s so nice that our kids are at an age where they can do so much on their own. It will make life easier when we start over with baby #3 in a few short weeks.
I would love to hear somethings you have changed in your morning routine since school is back in. Comment below!
