All my years in school I played sports year round. So you would think I loved being active and working out. But the truth is working out during the past 10(+) years has been a struggle for me. And now that we have a new born and 4 year old who is home with me for most of the day, when he’s not at preschool, and that makes it all the more challenging.
It just proved to me that I needed to make a plan, then work my plan! Here’s some tips that I’m doing to help me work out my plan.
I made a plan.
I can’t do anything if I don’t have a plan together. I already decided that I will start simple and walk an hour on the treadmill and do a simple dumbbell work out. I took a look at my week and then my days. I will work out from 1p-2p. This is not my ideal time however, with my husband’s work schedule this is a time when I can get a work out in while he tends to our kiddos. With a newborn, I would have a tough time working out without my husband’s help with the kids.
I wrote it down. Where I can see it.
I have a bulletin board for my goals on my desk that I have my work out plan pinned. I also posted it on our closet door. I know, way less classy. But I see it everyday and it reminds me of my goals.
I set an alarm on my phone.
This sounds like a bit much doesn’t it? Do I really need to have an annoying alarm go off to remind me to go walk for 30 mins? Yes. Yes I do! Life is busy these days. Since working out isn’t a habit in my daily routine yet, it is too easy for me to become distracted and before I know it I have missed my workout time.
I got a workout partner.
My husband is working out with me as well. We are both trying to make this a lifestyle change and not a “lets lose weight fast and then gain it all back again” thing. While starting out, it’s important for me to have someone do this with. It helps hold me accountable.
I bought some fun workout gear.
This may sound a bit superficial, I know. But it works! It’s just too boring to work out in black yoga pants and old tshirt (that I should have thrown out 5 years ago). So I bought some much needed sports bras (fun colors of course) and a bright top to wear.
Is the struggle real for you too? I would love to hear your story. Comment below!
