December is a great time of year. There is a lot to do and best of all, a lot of it can be done at a low cost. If you are looking for ways to have fun but not spend too much here are somethings to try.
Look for fun, free or low cost events going on in your area. At our fair grounds we have a wonderful little set up where the kids can meet Santa Cluas have some hot chocolate and it’s a great setting for pictures. It’s an adorable set up and makes for a perfect family outing.
Santa Parade Bundle up and head outside as many towns have some sort of parade or gathering to celebrate the Christmas season.
Ice Skating. Many towns offer an outdoor skating rink. Look at any colleges or Universities that have a hockey rinks, they usually offer open skate hours for the public. They have a great tool for little skaters too.
Look at Christmas lights. One of my favorite memories as a kid is when we would all hope in the car with our jammies on and Christmas music playing and driving around looking at Christmas lights. We have a couple of spots near by that every year they have an amazing light display. And it’s free!
Snow! Living in the mid west, we usually have one good snow before Christmas day. Invite some friends over and have a playdate where the kids can play in the snow. Make a snowman, snow angle, snowball fight and more! It will keep them busy for hours.
Decorating the tree. Make this a big deal. Put some Christmas music on and let the kids help set up the tree, decorate it. It will turn into a family tradition to decorate the tree.
Christmas Cookie Exchange. This is one of my favorites. How it works: 1. Get a group of friends, about 5-7 works great. If you get too many then you are making A LOT of cookies! 2. Each person makes a dozen cookies of their choosing. So if you have 5 people participating, each person needs to make 4 dozen of the same cookie. 3. Wrap up each dozen so you can hand them out. 4. Have a get together to exchange the cookies.
I hope you are all having a great December so far. Comment below and tell me your about Christmas fun.
