Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year! It’s a season for giving. It’s fun to give with a joyful heart. Unfortunately, many find themselves unprepared and stress when the Christmas shopping season comes around.
Here is the good news. Since Christmas comes at the same time each year, it’s not a surprise. This allows us to prepare ahead of time for the Christmas season. Here are some tips to help prepare you for the Christmas shopping season.
Take a look at least years Christmas. What worked and what needs improvements? Did you go over budget? Did you have to buy last minute gifts because you forgot? Did you have to use a credit card or take out a small loan to pay for Christmas?
Make a list. List everyone you need to buy for. Be sure to include those small gifts we tend to forget about until last minute. Such as, teacher gifts, your garage man, babysitter, dog walker, bus driver etc. Also, do you give to organizations or special missions during this time of year? Such as Operation Christmas Child, Salvation Army or a family in need and more.
Budget. Set a dollar amount for each person. Know how much you are spending before you step into a store. It just too easy to go shopping spending money at this store and that store and before you know it you have spent hundreds of dollars and you haven’t found a gift for the person you were shopping for! A budget is having a plan for your money.
Start Saving. Ok, now that you know how much you will spend on everyone do the math to figure out how much you will need to put aside each payday. This is called your Christmas Fund. Start putting money aside each payday that you will use only for towards Christmas. You will be so thankful you did when fall rolls around and you begin your shopping.
Lets review: If you want to eliminate stress know who you are buying for and create a budget, have a plan for your money then start building your Christmas Fund then have fun shopping for others!
